This is the question when we are de-cluttering the closet, basement, garage... anyplace.
When I am trying to pare down, I make excuses for things to still be in my life.
I can't get rid of this T-shirt because I got it at a Lollapalooza concert in 1992. Or the old, tattered chair that grandma bought new in 1965. The excuses go on and on why we keep so much stuff.
I once heard Marie Kondo (tidying up guru) say to get rid of an item if it doesn't spark joy. Great advice for most of us since we are prone to have attachments to things and need permission from ourselves to let it go.
A customer called recently and was completely overwhelmed because it was time to move, and her basement had become a storage facility over the years. She wasn't sure what to keep and what to get rid of. This happens to all of us at one point.
The advice I gave was to start small. Give yourself a half hour each day to pick out things that need to go. End of the week or month, you have made a big dent! Baby steps....
When Frugal Removal comes out to get your items, be confident that your stuff will be handled responsibly. We always recycle, reuse, and donate when possible.
